Silica Gel SG6 - Mix with Moisture Indicator

Silica Gel SG6 is a highly effective desiccant that is ideal for protecting your 3D printing filaments from moisture. This product contains an eco-friendly moisture indicator that changes color, allowing easy monitoring of the silica gel's saturation.

Main Advantages and Uses

  • Visual moisture indication: The beads change color depending on water absorption, making it easy to monitor saturation. Orange indicates a dry state, while green indicates moisture saturation.
  • High adsorption capacity: An active surface area of approximately 800 m²/g ensures effective moisture absorption, which is crucial for maintaining filament quality.
  • Wide range of uses: Suitable for protecting filaments, electronics, optical components, and other sensitive materials.
  • Reusable: Can be regenerated in an oven at 110°C or in a microwave.
  • Flexible application: The beads can be easily placed in various containers, such as bags, cans, bowls, or buckets, allowing their use in a wide range of environments.

Technical Specifications

  • Bead diameter: 2-5 mm (over 80% of beads)
  • Bulk density: 620-700 g/l
  • Adsorption capacity:
    • At 20% relative humidity: approx. 11.0%
    • At 50% relative humidity: approx. 25.5%
    • At 90% relative humidity: approx. 36.0%
  • PH: 4-6
  • Pore diameter: 2.0-3.0 nm
  • Pore volume: 0.35-0.45 ml/g

Moisture Indication by Color Change

Silica Gel SG6 contains a mixture of orange and clear silica gel in a 1:20 ratio, with the orange silica gel serving as a moisture indicator. The color change of the beads at different humidity levels:

  • 0% relative humidity: Orange
  • 8% relative humidity: Yellow-brown (at 20°C, min. 20% relative humidity)
  • 20% relative humidity: Brown-green (at 20°C, min. 50% relative humidity)
  • 30% relative humidity: Green (at 20°C, min. 90% relative humidity)

  • Flexible application: The beads can be easily placed in various containers, such as bags, cans, bowls, or buckets, allowing their use in a wide range of environments.

Silica Gel SG6 represents a reliable solution for moisture control in your 3D printing environment. Its ability to visually indicate the degree of moisture saturation, along with its high adsorption capacity, makes it an ideal choice for protecting your filaments and other sensitive materials from the adverse effects of moisture.

Regeneration and Reuse

Silica Gel SG5 can be easily regenerated, making it an economical and eco-friendly choice for long-term use.

In an Electric or Gas Oven

  • Optimal temperature: 120-160°C
  • Regeneration time: Depends on the amount of silica gel

Procedure

  • Water evaporation from the silica gel occurs at temperatures above 110°C. Complete regeneration is indicated when no more steam rises from the silica gel.

In a Microwave Oven

  • Power: 600W
  • Time: Approximately 3 minutes per 100 g of wet silica gel

Procedure

  • The container must be heat-resistant up to 200°C and must not be metal or plastic (preferably heat-resistant glass or ceramic).
  • Allow approximately 3 minutes for every 100 g of wet silica gel.
  • Then visually check if steam is still being produced. Continue only if steam is being produced.
  • If you continue when no more steam is produced, the silica gel can heat up to 240°C, start cracking, and the container may crack due to the temperature.
  • If you use silica gel with an indicator, it will change back to orange after cooling.

Tip: Allow the silica gel to cool before reuse after regeneration.
