Silica Gel SO1 - Orange is a highly effective desiccant based on silicon dioxide (SiO2) in the form of spherical beads with a granularity of 2-4 mm. This silica gel is equipped with a moisture saturation indicator that changes color from orange to green, allowing easy monitoring of its effectiveness.

Product Usage

  • Storage of 3D printing filaments: Keeps filaments dry and protects them from moisture, which can negatively affect print quality. It is ideal for use in various boxes and systems, such as the AMS from Bambulab.
  • Drying air and gases: Effective in closed boxes and containers.

Usage Recommendations

For optimal results when storing filaments, we recommend:

  • Placing the silica gel in a closed box or container along with the filaments.
  • Regularly checking the color of the silica gel. Once it changes from orange to green, it's time for regeneration.

Color Change Upon Moisture Saturation

Once the SO1 silica gel beads absorb a certain amount of moisture, they change color from orange to green:

  • 0% moisture: Orange
  • 8% moisture: Yellow-brown (at 20 °C, min. 20% relative humidity)
  • 20% moisture: Brown-green (at 20 °C, min. 50% relative humidity)
  • 30% moisture: Green (at 20 °C, min. 90% relative humidity)

Technical Parameters

  • Composition: SiO2 (silicon dioxide) with a purity of min. 99.5%
  • Granularity: 2-4 mm
  • Bulk density: 620-700 g/l
  • Specific surface area: approx. 800 m²/g
  • Pore volume: 0.35-0.45 ml/g
  • Nominal pore diameter: 25 Å
  • Saturation indicator: Methyl red (0.09%)

Regeneration and Reuse

SO1 silica gel can be easily regenerated, making it an economical and ecological choice for long-term use.

In an Electric or Gas Oven

  • Optimal temperature: 110-130°C
  • Regeneration time: Depends on the amount of silica gel

Procedure

  • Water evaporation from the silica gel occurs at temperatures above 110°C. Complete regeneration is indicated when no more steam rises from the silica gel.

In a Microwave Oven

  • Power: 600W
  • Time: Approximately 3 minutes per 100 g of wet silica gel

Procedure

  • The container must be heat-resistant up to 200°C and must not be metal or plastic (preferably heat-resistant glass or ceramic).
  • Allow approximately 3 minutes for every 100 g of wet silica gel.
  • Then visually check if steam is still being produced. Continue only if steam is being produced.
  • If you continue when no more steam is being produced, the silica gel can heat up to 240°C, start to crack, and the container may crack from the heat.
  • If you use silica gel with an indicator, it will change back to orange only after cooling down.

Tip: After regeneration, let the silica gel cool down before further use.

Packaging

800 g: Transparent bottle, ideal for smaller applications.
